Fame and fortune come with obligation.  Gaga and her cohorts (Britney, Beyonce etc) sexualisation of the entertainment industry is outrageous.  The impact on society is not able to be appreciated…. well not yet.

Sure… there have been outrageous entertainers in the past (Madonna and even Cher strutting their stuff) but you could escape it.  Parents could easily restrict access by their young children.

So what is the difference today?  It is the ubiquity, their presence is almost inescapable.  The internet, TV shows, TV news, Pay TV, sporting events, movies, and radio (lyrics).  Simply everywhere.

My two-year old daughter recognises Lady Gaga… says her name when she sees her on TV.   Does that make me a bad parent?  Maybe 20-30 years ago, but not today.

I’m no wowser, this is not an Elvis Presley equivalent, the entertainment industry has passed the point of decency.

The Edge of Glory… more like the Edge of the Abyss.

I always wondered what field of science they were ologising.

Maybe they’d be more successful if re-branded as the Church of Skeptology. They could increase their membership significantly by enlisting a new set of people who also make stuff up and ignore facts. i.e climate change skeptics.

What astounds me about this show is the phenomenal ability for contestant and judges to tell you either…

Exactly what you have just seen… e.g. ‘and then I saw a hole in the salt crust’ after we have twice seen a close up of the hole in salt crust either side of a commercial break.

OR

The bleeding obvious.  e.g. for an elimination challenge a judge tells the contestants ‘it all comes down to this meal‘.  It is an elimination challenge in a cooking show, what else would they be eliminated for… dress sense, or bad breath?  Another beauty is to show the MasterChef clock that indicates 10 minutes to go in a challenge, and then one judge shouts (not announces) there is 10 minutes to go.

I understand the structure of MasteChef is designed to create tension and interest, but treating your audience with a mental capacity of a 6-year-old is surely not sustainable.

 Is it?

These guys from Masterchef Australia (Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris) are no doubt expert cooks / food critics and consummate TV personalities.

However, they all would fall into the category of being obese.  Channel 10 tries it’s best to hide their teletubbies, but the camera can only do so much.

So my question is… are they good examples to our community of healthy lifestyles?

I think not.  Much of the food they consume on Masterchef has excessive calories / joules, salt also seems to be a dominant component. Just because food is well prepared and presented, doesn’t mean it is healthy.

Maybe the next reality TV show will be Matt, Gary and George losing a few kilos.

From what I have read and seen he is an odd, self-promoting, extreme right-winger with weirdo and ridiculous ideas.

More like a clown than serious commentator. Maybe that is why the media fawn upon him.
